This interview is part of the Canadian Quilters Showcase series. I wanted to share with the world some of the amazing talent found here in our country. Quilters from across Canada have submitted quilts with their stories and are featured monthly. Know someone who should be showcased? Nominate them!

Why did you choose this pattern? How long did it take to make this quilt? Where did you get the pattern? Fabric?
I chose the pattern, Gypsy Wife by Jenn Kingwell, as I had seen a workshop being offered and was unable to take the workshop, but loved the look of the quilt. I was not able to just buy the pattern so my mission was to find it someplace. I ended up contacting a friend who lives in Australia, where Jenn is from, and my friend found the pattern and sent it to me. I had the pattern for over a year before I decided it was time to make it. In that time before I had signed up for a Fat Quarter Club and received a beautiful variety of fat quarters. I chose the fabrics from these fat quarters. I loved the variety of blocks and the simplicity of the strips.
Why do you quilt? What do you like most about it? What do you like least about it?
I love being creative and find it personally satisfying. I find sitting at the sewing machine very relaxing and let’s me focus on what I’m working on and nothing else. It is my Happy Place. I spend lots of time selecting fabrics and colours and find this challenging. I enjoy the whole process of putting the quilt together and the part I like the least is picking apart what doesn’t fit!
Were there special people or circumstances that encouraged you to begin to quilt?
I have been quilting on and off for 25 years. First starting with a sampler class and joining the local quilt club, the passion to make quilts has only gotten stronger over the years.
What do you do with your finished quilts?
Most of my finished quilts are still at my house and some day I will pass them onto a family member.
